The Loan Services unit administers long-term educational loans. These include campus-based Perkins and Health Professional Loans, University loans, as well as non-campus-based William D. Ford Federal Direct Loans, such as Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Student Loans and Federal Direct PLUS Loans.
Loans are administered either electronically via Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) or as paper transactions. Funds transferred electronically are applied directly to the student’s Bruin Bill, while loan proceeds disbursed by check are picked up at Loan Services, located in the Strathmore Building at 555 Westwood Plaza, Room 106.
Federal regulations require that undergraduate students be enrolled in at least six units and graduate students in at least four units continuously throughout their stated loan period to receive loan funds. This will be verified before each loan disbursement is distributed. Student borrowers should also be aware of the following in regards to a disbursement made in the form of a(n):
- Electronic Transaction
Your loan funds are sent to UCLA electronically. Such loan funds will be disbursed directly to your Bruin Bill. (For further information on the Bruin Bill process, please contact Student Accounting at 1121 Murphy Hall or call (310) 825–9194.)
- Paper Transaction
If you are picking up your paper loan check, you must present a valid driver's license, DMV ID card, or passport, and have no outstanding financial holds on your records.
If you withdraw or carry insufficient units during your stated loan period, any remaining loan funds will be returned to the lender and your loan will be canceled. In addition, you may be billed for funds you have already received. If this happens, you must apply for a new loan that reflects your new loan period. In such a case or for more information, contact the Financial Aid Office, A129J Murphy Hall.
